Summer

In the summer Châtel turns into a cozy mountain village that attracts walkers and families. You can take endless walks, go mountain biking, go to the cinema and enjoy the delicious Savoyard cuisine. In the wider area farmers are busy making cheese, milk and the delicious honey. Regional products that you will find in the restaurants in the village, at the farms in the mountains or at the market on the square in front of the church in the center of Châtel, every Wednesday morning  The inhabitants of the valley annually celebrate the special day of La Belle Dimanche as a tribute to craft, farm life and the beautiful nature. Take the ski lift up to Super-Châtel or Pre-la-Joux and you will find blueberries, wild strawberries and beautiful alpine flowers. You can make nice walks, lounge & lunch in one of the mountain restaurants or picnic at a lake. The neighboring Chapelle d'Abondance is also a wonderful starting point for a long walk. And if you have a taste for hiking, the GR5  -a long distance walk from the Hook of Holland to Nice- runs just through the village of Chapelle. For children Châtel is also a nice place to play all summer doing fishing, bowling, tennis, summer bobsled, pedal or just spinning the carousel in the center of the village.

In the summer, many people exchange the skis and snowboards for mountain bikes. Châtel also offers some spectacular challenges, fine routes and a good 12 downhill runs. A challenge in height is the 'Fantasticable'. This is a cable between four mountain peaks which takes you in high speed from one peak to the other. But you can also choose more relaxed alternatives like a paragliding flying trip. If you prefer the mountains in combination with city culture a day trip to Lake Geneva will do perfectly. Discover cities as Montreux, Geneva, Lausanne, Evian-les-Bains and Thonon-les-Bains. Or visit the town of Martigny, also a wonderful place to visit if you like art and culture. Rather stay in the village? Since the summer of 2014 Châtel has a stunning indoor and outdoor pool (Forme d'O) with an extensive Wellness facility.
